Greenworks is adding a compact 1/2-inch impact wrench to its 24V Pro PowerAll platform at Walmart. The new IW5550 ships at $99 bare tool, with a 2.0Ah battery kit running $179.
It’s the smallest, lightest 1/2-incher Greenworks has put on the 24V platform so far. Reviewer Josh McGaffigan called it “a perfectly capable impact wrench” that’s “hard to argue with this combination of performance and value” for homeowners and pros who don’t need a full-size high-torque model.

Auto Mode is the headline feature. Hit the trigger and the wrench runs up to set torque, then automatically stops rotation the moment a fastener breaks loose in reverse. No need to keep pulling the trigger or listen for that snap. Three forward speed modes (150, 300, 400 ft-lbs) handle the common wheel nut, suspension bolt, and lag bolt cases without overshooting.
The tool also ships with a 2-position belt hook, an LED worklight, and a tether-ready loop for working at height. None of those are category-breaking features, but they round out a compact package that’s aimed at the same buyer who might otherwise grab a Milwaukee or FLEX.
How it stacks up
The IW5550 is aimed at the same buyer who would otherwise look at the Milwaukee M18 Fuel 2962 or the FLEX 24V FX1431. Both cost more than twice as much bare tool.

Compared to the Milwaukee 2962, the IW5550 gives up about 90 ft-lbs of breakaway torque and roughly 1 inch of head length, but weighs over 2 lbs less and costs $180 less bare.
The FLEX FX1431 is closer on weight and head size but only manages 450 ft-lbs of breakaway, also at double the price. For automotive work under the daily-driver category (lug nuts, brake caliper bolts, suspension components on light trucks), the IW5550 has the torque. For large nuts, heavily seized fasteners, or industrial work, step up to a high-torque model.
Where the IW5550 fits on the 24V Pro line
Greenworks has been filling out the 24V PowerAll platform since the May 2023 Walmart-exclusive launch. The IW5550 sits as the compact / mid-torque option between the existing 3/8-inch 400 ft-lbs model and the larger high-torque 1/2-inch models that are also on the platform.
All run on the same 24V battery platform, so anyone already in the ecosystem can use their existing 2.0Ah, 4.0Ah, and 5.0Ah packs.
McGaffigan’s hands-on review highlighted the 2.9-lb bare weight as the biggest differentiator for one-handed work in tight engine bays. The 5.75-inch head is also short enough to fit between the fender and the wheel on most cars, which the larger 1/2-inch high-torque models cannot do.
The trade-off for the compact head is that the IW5550 won’t replace a high-torque model for suspension removal on heavier trucks or lug nuts that have been over-torqued by a pneumatic impact for years. McGaffigan’s recommendation line: step up to the high-torque Greenworks 1/2-inch model if you regularly deal with seized fasteners in the 700+ ft-lbs range.
