The pocket-hole jig maker is going deeper into the router market. Kreg previewed a 12-product expansion at its Iowa headquarters, and 731 Woodworks’ Matt Outlaw walked the floor on August 5 to file the first detailed report.
Headline piece: a 2.25 HP 20V cordless plunge router. Bare tool $249, kit with a 4Ah battery $299, ships September 2026. A matching 2.25 HP corded plunge router lands at the same $249. Cleverly, a lockout converts the plunge mechanism to threaded above-the-table height adjustment, making this the first plunge router that drops into a standard router lift without modification.
Below that, a 1.25 HP corded trim router fills the gap between 1 HP trim routers and the 2.25 HP models. No price yet.
For full-size work, a 3.5 HP router is positioned as the Porter-Cable 7518 replacement. Kreg added soft start and real-time speed correction, both missing on the original. Price not announced.
On the tables side, the new Dock and Go trim router table is portable. Rather than a permanent mount, the router drops in and pulls out, so you can use it freehand. $149 with legs, $99 for the top, fence, and plate alone. Ships September.
A pre-drilled router plate rounds out the September launches. Existing products covered in the preview: the 20V cordless trim router, the trim router base, circle cutting jig, precision router lift, and the workbenches and Adaptive Cutting System table are already shipping.
Best known for pocket-hole joinery, Kreg has been pushing into broader power tool territory for two years. The Ionic Drive 20V platform already has drills, a grinder, and impact wrenches, and the $500 Kreg Edge tenon joiner went after Festool’s Domino last spring. Routers are the next logical step, and the brand is pricing to compete, not to premium-position.
If the 2.25 HP cordless plunge router ships on schedule and the above-the-table lockout works as advertised, that’s a real differentiator in a category dominated by DeWalt, Makita, and Festool. We’ll know in September.
