The Festool Domino has gone unchallenged as the standard for cordless loose tenon joinery since 2007. Kreg just announced the Edge — a $500 cordless tenon joiner on their 20V Ionic Drive platform — and the gap is now a lot smaller.
What Happened
Kreg announced the Edge on May 19, 2026. It’s a plunge-cut mortising tool: press it against the edge or face of a board, it cuts a slot, you fill the slot with a loose tenon, and you get a fast, precisely aligned, furniture-grade joint without pocket screws. It’s the same workflow the Festool Domino popularized, now on Kreg’s proprietary 20V Ionic Drive system.

How It Stacks Up Against the Domino
The Festool Domino DF 500 runs $1,300 or more. At $500, the Kreg Edge is roughly 60% cheaper — a real gap for a small shop operator or serious DIYer who wants this capability without the Festool premium. Kreg’s tool also includes the battery and charger in that price; the Domino’s kit pricing starts significantly higher.
The honest caveat: $500 is not an impulse buy, and Kreg’s Ionic Drive platform is proprietary. It won’t share batteries with your DeWalt or Milwaukee tools. If you’re already deep in another 20V ecosystem, that’s a consideration — though Kreg has expanded Ionic Drive aggressively, now covering drills, impact wrenches, and angle grinders since April 2026.
What This Means for Buyers
If you’ve been putting off joinery work because Festool’s price point felt unjustifiable, the Kreg Edge is worth watching. A $500 cordless tenon joiner is genuinely new territory — Kreg is the first major US brand to offer one at this price. Whether it matches the Domino’s fit-and-finish will depend on hands-on testing, which hasn’t happened yet.
No buy link exists yet and Kreg hasn’t announced a ship date. Keep an eye on Acme Tools and Kreg’s own site for availability updates.
