Lowe’s is selling DeWalt ToughSystem tool boxes, and that is a bigger deal than it sounds. For more than 15 years, ToughSystem has been a Home Depot exclusive. ToolGuyd picked up the tip from a reader who spotted the boxes on a Lowe’s store shelf, then confirmed the listing online.
The product shows up as part of Lowe’s holiday tool deals and gift center setup.
Lowe’s has not branded the listing as ToughSystem 2.0. The product images carry 2.0 graphics, which suggests the current generation, but the listing text itself is vague. Treat the exact SKU and generation as unconfirmed until Lowe’s labels it clearly.
What we can confirm
- Lowe’s is listing DeWalt ToughSystem boxes online, according to ToolGuyd.
- A reader reported seeing a ToughSystem modular box combo on a Lowe’s store shelf.
- Store availability varies. Not every Lowe’s has the holiday display up yet.
- Online pricing had not been updated at the time of the report.
We could not verify the Lowe’s listing ourselves. Lowe’s blocks automated requests, so the SKU and price are still open questions. Check your local store or search Lowes.com directly before you plan a drive.
Why a second retailer matters
ToughSystem is built around stacking. The boxes latch to each other, and DeWalt’s own documentation says the system is backwards compatible with any ToughSystem product going back to the original launch.
The DWST08300 Large Toolbox, for example, is IP65 rated, holds 110 lbs, and has metal front latches.
That kind of ecosystem works best when you can buy pieces from more than one store. If Lowe’s carries even part of the lineup, it gives DeWalt owners a second source for add-on boxes and a holiday price to compare against Home Depot.
Milwaukee PACKOUT, by contrast, has stayed a Home Depot item.
It also says something about where the holiday storage business is going. Home Depot has run ToughSystem promotions for years, and Lowe’s has been pushing DeWalt hard this season, including its free-tool offers.
What this means for buyers
If you already own ToughSystem boxes, nothing about the system changes. A new box bought at Lowe’s will latch to your old ones the same way.
If you are starting out, price the whole system before you commit. A box that is $10 cheaper at Lowe’s is no bargain if the accessory you need next is only at Home Depot.
Our PACKOUT vs TSTAK vs ToughSystem comparison breaks down what each system actually gives you.
DeWalt owners who have been waiting for a better holiday price should watch both stores over the next few weeks. Lowe’s four-week Black Friday run started October 29, according to our Lowe’s holiday calendar.
Where it stands today
For now this is a retail expansion story, not a product launch. DeWalt has not announced a new storage system, and Lowe’s has not published a formal statement.
ToolGuyd’s report is the best available source. We will update this story when Lowe’s posts clear pricing or DeWalt confirms the arrangement.
