The big story is the interchangeable anvil system. How It Compares to Milwaukee
Cordless ratchets have been Milwaukee’s lane for years, with the M12 and M18 ratchet families dominating automotive shops. Pro Tool Reviews put the DCF510 head to head against the Milwaukee 3053 and 3054 in side-by-side breakaway testing on eight stubborn nuts.
The Milwaukee 3053 (300 RPM, 70 ft-lbs) broke 2 of 8 nuts under motor power. The DCF510 broke the remaining 6. The 3054 (300 RPM, 80 ft-lbs) is the closest Milwaukee competitor at $329, but it ships as a single fixed drive size and does not have the interchangeable anvil system.
Trade-off: the DCF510’s head profile runs about 1.5 to 1.7 inches deep, so it sits bulkier than a manual ratchet. Tight engine-bay work around headers or accessory brackets is where that depth starts to matter. The 1.7Ah PowerStack battery in the kit helps offset the weight penalty when you are working overhead.

DeWalt launched its 20V MAX XR Sealed Head ratchet family back in March 2026. The original DCF520B swaps between three drives (3/8-inch, 1/4-inch, 1/4-inch low-profile hex) and runs faster (450 RPM) but with less torque (50 ft-lbs). The DCF510 is the higher-torque sibling, built for the heavier fastener side of the workload where 1/2-inch lug nuts and suspension bolts live.
For techs who do a mix of small engine and auto work, the DCF510 and DCF520B are complementary rather than competing: DCF520B for trim panels and small fasteners, DCF510 for drivetrain and chassis work.
What’s New vs. Older DeWalt Ratchets
The earlier DCF520B sealed head swaps between three drives but tops out at 50 ft-lbs. The DCF510 cuts the third drive (the 1/4-inch low-profile hex) and adds 25 ft-lbs of torque in exchange. That tradeoff reads as a deliberate split: the DCF520B handles light trim work, the DCF510 handles anything that fought you on the lug wrench.
Compared to the compact ATOMIC DCF514B (250 RPM, 45 ft-lbs, fixed 1/4-inch drive), the DCF510 is the heavy-duty option in the family. It is longer at 15 inches and heavier at 2.6 lbs bare, so it is not the right pick for dash or interior work where head length matters more than raw torque.
Who It’s For
Auto techs, diesel mechanics, and fleet maintenance crews already running DeWalt 20V MAX will get the most out of this. One ratchet covers both 3/8 and 1/2 work, the sealed head shrugs off the brake cleaner and gear oil it will see on the shop floor, and the existing battery fleet powers it.
If you are on Milwaukee M18 and already own the 3054 or 2967, the DCF510 is not a must-upgrade unless you specifically need the interchangeable drive system. The Milwaukee family has the deeper catalog and a longer track record in this category.
