If you own Metabo power tools and have been confused by the name change appearing on new products and packaging, here’s the story: Metabo North America is officially transitioning to the Metabo HPT brand, with the rebranding expected complete by mid-2026.
KOKI Group, the Japanese conglomerate that owns both Metabo (in North America) and HiKoki (internationally), announced the transition in November 2025. The goal is to consolidate its North American power tool presence under a single unified identity: Metabo HPT.
What’s Actually Changing
Short answer: just the name on the box.
The company has been clear that the transition is cosmetic only. Product quality, engineering, and manufacturing are unchanged. Existing warranties remain honored without interruption, and parts, accessories, and service support continue for all current Metabo and Metabo HPT products.
Current Metabo batteries remain compatible with existing tools and will continue to be available. All new cordless tools released under the Metabo HPT banner will use the MultiVolt™ system, the same platform powering current Metabo HPT cordless tools. A MultiVolt battery works at 18V in standard tools and 36V in high-demand tools, which makes it one of the more flexible platforms on the market.
North America vs. International
This rebrand is North America-specific. In Europe and globally, Metabo continues as a separate brand. HiKoki also operates independently in international markets. If you buy or use tools internationally, the branding will differ from what you see at US retailers.
What Buyers Should Know Right Now
- Battery compatibility is unchanged. MultiVolt batteries work across the full cordless lineup whether the tool is labeled Metabo or Metabo HPT.
- Clearance pricing opportunity. As retailers transition to new packaging, you may see discounts on Metabo-branded stock being cleared. Worth watching if you’re in the market.
- New tools in 2026 will carry Metabo HPT branding from launch, no confusion going forward.
