Why 40V for a Grease Gun

Most cordless grease guns run on 18V or 12V platforms. The XGT’s 40V delivers 10,000 PSI — meaningfully higher than typical lower-voltage guns — which matters for high-resistance fittings on older equipment, zero-turn mower decks, skid steer pins, and any fitting that’s been dry for a season.

Barrel loading speeds tube changes and reduces air lock. The discharge counter (preset 1–99 strokes) prevents overpacking on sealed bearing applications where too much grease causes heat and failure. Air lock detection shuts the motor before damage occurs. Twin LED lights on a separate switch help locate fittings under machinery in low light — a practical detail that pays off in tight spaces.

Closest Competitor Context

Cordless grease guns have been dominated by 18V and M12 offerings that top out around 6,000–8,000 PSI in most real-world usage. The 10,000 PSI rating on the GPG01Z puts it in a different class for demanding applications. For XGT users already running Makita saws and drills, consolidating onto one platform for lubrication work is the clear practical win — one charger, one battery type, one case.

When and Where to Get It

The GPG01Z is shipping now, bare tool only (~$310). A 40V XGT 4.0Ah battery runs $140–$160 from the same dealers. Available from authorized Makita dealers: Acme Tools, Tool Nut, and Ace Tool carry it now. Not yet listed on Amazon.

This is Makita’s second XGT specialty tool launched in 2026, following its first 40V XGT heat gun (variable temp to 1,110°F). For how the XGT platform stacks up against Milwaukee M18 and DeWalt 20V, see our battery platforms comparison.
