Makita has launched the GGH01Z, its first 40V Max XGT cordless heat gun — a tool type new to the platform that tradespeople have relied on for drills, saws, and grinders. The GGH01Z is available now through specialty tool retailers.
What the XGT Platform Adds
Makita’s 18V LXT line already has a cordless heat gun (XGH01ZK), so the question is why the GGH01Z matters. The 40V XGT platform delivers more sustained airflow and faster thermal recovery than 18V can manage — that’s the difference between a heat gun that keeps up with industrial heat shrink and one that struggles to hold temperature under load.
Temperature runs from 120°F to 1,110°F in precise 10°F increments. Airflow adjusts between 4.25 and 7 CFM. The body is compact at 7.5 inches, and a quick-release attachment mechanism lets you swap nozzles without touching the hot end. An integrated LED illuminates the work area — useful in electrical panels or attic spaces where cordless use is most practical.
Runtime
On a 4.0Ah XGT battery (sold separately), Makita rates the GGH01Z at up to 30 minutes continuous. In real-world use — short bursts of heat shrink, paint softening, or pipe bending — that stretches considerably further. XGT batteries from any other Makita tool in the lineup are compatible.
Who Actually Needs This
Electricians working in panels and crawl spaces without nearby outlets are the primary buyers. Running an extension cord to a heat gun while doing wire terminations is a real inconvenience that a cordless tool eliminates cleanly. HVAC techs, plumbers bending PVC, and renovation crews stripping adhesives or paint will find similar value.
The 1,110°F max covers most professional heat shrink specifications and handles typical paint removal without needing a corded backup.
Availability and Price
The GGH01Z is available tool-only through specialty retailers including Tool Nut. Check Makita USA’s product page for current pricing and Home Depot availability, which had not been confirmed at time of writing. Pricing was not publicly listed at publication — expect it to land in the range typical for professional XGT tools.
