DeWalt just crossed a product barrier that has existed since the cordless tool era began: a battery-powered 4-inch cut-off tool. Announced via official press release on March 23, the ATOMIC 20V MAX DCG432XB is described by DeWalt as the industry’s first battery-operated 4-inch cut-off tool. It ships in April 2026 alongside a companion 3-inch model, the DCG430B.
The DCG432XB: 4-Inch Extended Cut-Off Tool
The 4-inch model is the headliner. It’s built to compete directly with 0.9 HP pneumatic cut-off tools, the kind electricians, HVAC techs, and pipe fitters use for cutting conduit, threaded rod, and structural hardware in tight spaces. Key specs from DeWalt’s press release:
- 28% lighter than comparable pneumatic units
- 44% smaller gearcase height versus pneumatic equivalents
- Matches 0.9 HP pneumatic performance
- PERFORM & PROTECT Anti-Rotation System: stops the wheel within 1.1 seconds on a pinch or stall event
- TOOL CONNECT chip-ready (optional Bluetooth tracking chip)
- Forward exhaust directs airflow away from the operator
The anti-rotation system isn’t just a spec, cut-off tools are among the higher-risk cordless tools because an abrasive wheel can fragment or the tool can torque unexpectedly. A 1.1-second stop is genuinely useful safety engineering.
The DCG430B: 3-Inch Cut-Off Tool
The 3-inch companion is more of a precision instrument. DeWalt claims it delivers 78% more power than a 0.5 HP pneumatic equivalent, and it includes a rotating guide with 11 positions for controlling cut angles. This suits weld prep, thin stock cutting, and close-tolerance metal work where a 4-inch wheel is overkill.
Why This Matters
Until now, cordless metalworking tools have been angle grinders or die grinders, both compromise when you specifically need a cut-off wheel configuration. A 4-inch cordless cut-off tool lets a tradesperson leave the air compressor on the truck for jobs that only require cutting, not grinding.
