Lowe’s kicked off its DeWalt Black Friday promotions three weeks before Halloween this year, and the structure is different from past years in a way that changes the math for anyone already missing batteries.
The deal works like a build-your-own combo kit: buy a qualifying DeWalt battery starter kit, then pick free cordless tools on top.
Three tiers are live, all currently scheduled to run through January 20, 2027.
The Three Tiers
- 1 free tool at $299: requires the DCB205-2C starter kit (two 5Ah batteries plus charger)
- 2 free tools at $299: requires the DCB2184-2C kit (4Ah battery plus 8Ah Powerpack plus charger). This is the sweet spot for most people.
- 3 free tools at $449: requires the DCB2108-2C kit (two 8Ah XR Powerpack tabless-cell batteries plus a faster charger)
The free tool selection is the same across all tiers: core brushless tools, a random-orbit sander, and a 3-inch cutoff tool among them.
Notably absent: any drill. DeWalt is holding those back, which suggests separate drill promos are coming, and a DeWalt rep told at least one commenter that big sales land November 1.
Pricing Is Already Moving
The 1-free-tool tier launched at $299 but has already dropped to $199 in some locations.
If your store still shows $299, it’s worth checking a nearby store or the app before paying, since this looks like location-based pricing rather than a national cut.
For context, buying the DCB205-2C-style 5Ah 2-pack outright on Amazon runs about $138, and the 8Ah tabless Powerpack 2-pack kit goes for around $279.
That makes the 2-free-tools tier effectively ~$160 for two brushless tools if you value the batteries at street price. Whether that’s a good deal depends entirely on whether the free tool list includes something you’d actually buy anyway.
How to Shop It
- Buy the DCB2184-2C tier if you want the best tools-per-dollar; two free tools at the same $299 price as one is the standout
- Watch for popular free tools selling out; resellers flip these on eBay and Amazon, though October inventory should hold
- Don’t count on the January 20 end date; Lowe’s has a history of changing or ending these promos early
- If you need a drill, wait. DeWalt almost certainly has a drill-specific promo coming, possibly November 1
This promo follows the pattern from spring, when Lowe’s ran a buy-a-kit-pick-a-free-tool DeWalt event at $199.
