Makita just announced its first real expansion of the MakTrak modular storage system since it launched two years ago, and it fills the lineup’s most obvious gap: compact rolling boxes.
There is a catch for US buyers. All three new boxes have only been announced in Europe so far, with no USA dates or pricing.
Three New Boxes, Two of Them Roll
The headline addition is a compact single-drawer rolling box. Ball bearing slides carry the drawer, the rear handle telescopes out for pulling, and large side handles help with lifting into a truck.
Makita says you can stack its compact boxes and organizers on top and still open the drawer, which is the whole point of a drawer box in a stacked system.
Box two skips the drawer and goes traditional. A removable top lid, a compartment divider, and a tote tray inside. It rolls on the same compact footprint.
Box three is not a roller at all.
It is a compact case with a pull-out handle and internal dividers, aimed at batteries, chargers, and accessories rather than tools.

Why the Gap Mattered
MakTrak has covered every other base since launch. There is a large horizontal rolling tool chest, medium and large boxes, extension boxes, and a spread of organizers.
What it never had was a narrow-profile roller that fits between a work van and the jobsite without the bulk of the full chest.
That matters because Milwaukee’s PACKOUT and DeWalt’s ToughSystem both sell compact two-wheel boxes that are among their best sellers. Milwaukee even added a single-drawer PACKOUT box this year at $165.
Makita’s US lineup had no answer at that size, and US buyers noticed.
What US Buyers Should Expect
Makita’s US MakTrak line has been rolling out steadily at Home Depot and Amazon, so these boxes will probably land here eventually. Pricing is anyone’s guess until the US announcement. Watch Makita USA’s press page.
Makita’s existing rolling tool chest (T-90009) sells for around $500 at Home Depot, and the medium toolbox runs about $90 at Amazon right now.
