DeWalt has launched the DCF860, its new flagship 20V MAX XR impact driver, replacing the long-running DCF887 at the top of its 20V lineup. As reported by ToolGuyd, the DCF860 pushes to 2,500 in-lbs of max torque — 675 in-lbs more than the DCF887 it replaces — making it the highest-torque 20V impact driver DeWalt has ever shipped.

How It Stacks Up Against the Competition
The DCF860’s 2,500 in-lbs puts it well ahead of the tool it replaces, and it’s a direct answer to Makita’s XGT GDT04, which delivers 2,040 in-lbs on an 80V platform. The fact that DeWalt is squeezing this much torque out of 20V MAX is notable — it means existing users with DCF887-era batteries get a meaningful performance jump without a platform change. The 3-speed selector is carried over from the DCF887, which tradies who work across fastener sizes will appreciate. Nine LEDs instead of the typical three is a real jobsite upgrade for anyone working in cabinets, crawlspaces, or under vehicles.
Market Positioning
At $199.99 bare, the DCF860B sits in crowded territory — Milwaukee’s M18 FUEL lineup and Makita’s LXT brushless drivers compete at similar price points. What DeWalt is betting on here is raw torque numbers and platform loyalty. If your shop runs on 20V MAX batteries, the DCF860 is a compelling upgrade that doesn’t require buying into a new ecosystem. The 8.0Ah PowerPack kit at $319.99 is also well-priced for what you get — that battery alone runs $150+ standalone, so the kit math works if you need one.
When and Where to Buy
The DCF860 is available now on Amazon and at major retailers. The bare tool (DCF860B) is $199.99 and the kit (DCF860WW1) is $319.99 at time of writing — prices can change.
