Festool’s June 17 US launch is bigger than the headlines suggest. The cordless DOMINO DFC 500 got all the attention, but three more precision woodworking tools are landing the same day — and for most shops, the planer and edge routers will see more use.
Three New Cordless Tools, One Launch Date
| Tool | Model | Price | Key Spec |
|---|---|---|---|
| HLC 82 Cordless Planer | 578001 | $449 | 82mm width, helical cutterhead, 25mm rebate depth |
| OFKC 500 Cordless Edge Router | 577986 | $399 | Fixed-base, 1/256" depth adjustment |
| MFKC 700 Cordless Modular Edge Router | 578012 | $499 | Quick-change modular base, 1/256" depth |
HLC 82: A Cordless Planer That Doesn’t Apologize for Being Cordless
The HLC 82 runs an EC-TEC brushless motor with a single-knife helical cutterhead. That combination delivers smooth, chatter-free cuts even at full 82mm cutting width — the kind of surface quality most corded benchtop planers struggle to match, let alone cordless ones. Max rebate depth is 25mm, and built-in V-grooves handle chamfering without a separate setup.
At $449, it costs more than Milwaukee’s or Makita’s cordless planer options. You’re paying for EC-TEC motor consistency and full integration with Festool’s dust extraction and Systainer system. If those don’t matter to your work, better value exists elsewhere. If they do, nothing else is close.
Two Edge Routers for Two Different Workflows
Festool is splitting the edge router category into two tools. The OFKC 500 ($399) is a compact fixed-base router built for clean, repeatable edge passes — depth adjustment accurate to 1/256″ and cutters mounted directly on the spindle minimize run-out. The MFKC 700 ($499) adds a modular base that swaps without tools, letting you move between trimming, chamfering, and detailed edge work in seconds.
That depth adjustment spec is the differentiator. Most cordless edge routers from DeWalt, Makita, and Bosch adjust in coarser increments. In production cabinet work or custom millwork, 1/256″ is where Festool earns its price.

When and Where
All three tools ship June 17 at authorized US Festool dealers — the same day as the cordless DOMINO DFC 500. Prices listed are bare-tool. If you’re new to the Festool 18V system, factor in a compatible battery and charger.
