Kreg Goes Full Power Tool: 20V Ionic Drive Expands With Drills, Grinder, and Impact Wrenches

Kreg Tool — the brand that built its reputation on pocket hole joinery — has made a major move into mainstream power tools. On April 20, 2026, Kreg announced a significant expansion of its 20V Ionic Drive cordless platform, adding seven new tool categories and two high-capacity battery options to a system that launched with the Rebel Pocket Hole Joiner.

New Tools in the Ionic Drive Lineup

The expansion covers tools that most shop users reach for daily:

  • 1/2″ Compact Hammer Drill — tight-space drilling through wood, concrete, and masonry
  • 1/2″ High Speed Hammer Drill — higher RPM for demanding applications
  • 4.5″–5″ Angle Grinder — 6 speeds, up to 9,000 RPM for cutting, grinding, and sanding
  • High Torque 1/2″ Impact Wrench — up to 1,200 ft-lbs of breakaway torque
  • Compact 1/2″ and 3/8″ Impact Wrenches — smaller footprint for tighter spaces
  • 20V Shop Blower — 200 MPH max, 100 CFM airflow for bench and floor cleanup
  • Wet/Dry Vac with HEPA — cordless dust and debris management for the shop

New Batteries and Super Charger

Kreg expanded the Blue Ion battery family with two new packs built for longer runtime:

  • 20V Blue Ion 6.0Ah — extended runtime for production work
  • 20V Blue Ion 8.0Ah — maximum capacity for the longest sessions

The new Super Charger charges at 4x the speed of the standard Kreg charger — a meaningful upgrade for professionals who can’t babysit a slow dock between cuts.

Why This Is Notable

Kreg’s Ionic Drive system debuted as a single-purpose product: a cordless pocket hole joiner. Expanding into hammer drills, impact wrenches, and grinders signals that Kreg is positioning the 20V platform as a full workshop ecosystem. One battery, one charger, every tool on the bench.

The integration angle is real. Woodworkers who already run Kreg pocket holes, clamps, and layout tools don’t need to buy into a second battery platform just to drive a screw or grind a weld. Kreg is banking that shop loyalty extends from their specialty tools to general power tools.

The trade-off: Ionic Drive is a newer, smaller platform than established ecosystems from Milwaukee and DeWalt, so battery interoperability with other brands isn’t there. For the dedicated Kreg shop, though, the consolidation argument is solid.

Who Should Pay Attention

If you’re building a woodworking-focused shop from scratch and already use Kreg jigs, the Ionic Drive expansion gives you a reason to standardize on a single platform. For tradespeople or general DIYers, the established 20V platforms still have broader tool and battery availability.

The angle grinder and impact wrenches are the most interesting additions — these aren’t woodworking-specific tools, and their inclusion suggests Kreg wants the Ionic Drive battery in general contractor hands, not just at the pocket hole station.

Pricing for the new Ionic Drive tools has not been formally announced. The full lineup is available at kregtool.com/power-tools.
