If you own a Ridgid brushless nail gun, stop using it and check whether it’s included in a new safety recall. Approximately 64,000 Ridgid brushless nail guns have been recalled due to a malfunction in the dual-action safety mechanism.

What the Problem Is

These nail guns are designed to fire only when both the trigger and the nose tip (contact element) are engaged simultaneously, the standard two-stage safety found on all professional framing and finish nailers. The defect allows the tool to fire from trigger pull alone, without requiring nose contact.

That means the gun can discharge unexpectedly, creating a serious laceration risk for the operator and anyone nearby. Ridgid and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) are urging all owners of affected units to stop using them immediately.

What Tools Are Affected

The recall covers approximately 64,000 Ridgid brushless nail guns sold at Home Depot. Check CPSC.gov/Recalls for the complete list of affected model numbers, the CPSC maintains the authoritative list and updates it with remedy details as they become available.

Ridgid tools are sold exclusively at Home Depot. If you purchased a Ridgid brushless nailer within the past few years, verify whether your model is affected before your next use.

What To Do Now

  • Stop using the tool immediately until you confirm whether your model is included
  • Check CPSC.gov for the complete model list and official remedy instructions
  • Contact Ridgid via their website or Home Depot customer service for the next steps
  • Do not attempt to modify or self-repair the tool

Context: Third Major Tool Recall of 2026

This is the third significant power tool safety recall in 2026. Earlier this year, Milwaukee recalled 91,000 M18 FUEL chainsaws over a chain brake failure, and Grizzly Industrial recalled 2,300 heavy-duty planers over flying debris hazards.

Nail gun incidents are among the most serious in construction, these tools generate enough force to drive fasteners through structural lumber. The contact-element safety mechanism exists specifically to prevent accidental discharge. When it fails, injuries can be severe and immediate.
