Home Depot quietly added a house-brand laser distance measurer under $35.

The new Husky unit does the basics, and the price undercuts most of what’s on the shelf.

What $34 Gets You

  • 60-foot measuring range
  • Accuracy of plus or minus 1/8 inch
  • Backlit display
  • Rechargeable Li-ion battery with USB-C charging
  • Single-button operation: power, measure, and unit switching on one control
  • Feet, inches, or meters
  • Price: $34.17 at Home Depot

That’s a bare-bones feature set. No Bluetooth, no area or volume calculations beyond the basics, no multi-surface modes.

Husky built this for the shopper who needs to measure a room once and doesn’t want to think about it.

Is It Worth It Over the Alternatives?

Here’s where the math gets interesting.

The HOTO laser measure sits a few dollars higher at $39.99 on Amazon, and it gives you a 98-foot range, tighter accuracy at plus or minus 1/16 inch, and Bluetooth through the HOTO app.

If you measure more than a few times a year, the extra $6 buys real capability.

Bosch’s GLM 100-23 remains the pick for a no-nonsense tape-replacement, and it usually gets discounted during the holiday sales.

It runs on AAA batteries instead of a built-in pack, which some people prefer on a jobsite where USB outlets are scarce.

The Husky’s rechargeable-only design is the compromise to watch.

When the battery dies mid-job, you’re tethered to a USB-C source. With AAAs, you’d swap cells and keep working.

Who Should Buy Which

Buy the Husky if it’s a once-a-season tool and you want it cheap.

Buy the HOTO if you want range, accuracy, and app features for pocket change more.

Wait for a Bosch discount if you’re a daily user who values simplicity over connectivity.

Measuring tools earn their keep when they’re accurate enough to trust, so before you buy, see our tape measure comparison for the manual fallbacks, or our laser level guide if your project needs a reference line rather than a distance readout.
