Kobalt 24V Drill Kit Drops to $79 at Lowe’s Clearance — Stock Up or Switch Platforms?

One week after we reported Lowe’s had placed a stop sale on the Kobalt 24V platform, the clearance pricing is here. The Kobalt 24V Brushless 1/2-inch Drill Kit is now $79 at Lowe’s, down from $159 — the lowest price we’ve seen on this tool with a battery and charger included.

What the Clearance Confirms

In our original stop-sale report, Lowe’s had issued a directive to stop restocking Kobalt 24V and 48V outdoor tool kits. Clearance pricing now arriving across Kobalt 24V gear removes any remaining ambiguity: this is an end-of-life sell-off, not a temporary markdown. Once Lowe’s burns through existing inventory, Kobalt 24V won’t be restocked.

The Gen-3 Kobalt 24V lineup — which launched with brushless motors, USB-C battery charging, and a competitive price point — is going to be the final generation on this platform.

Should You Buy at Clearance Prices?

It depends on where you stand.

If you already own Kobalt 24V tools: The clearance is a legitimate opportunity. Picking up an extra battery or a second drill at $79 makes practical sense — your existing tools won’t stop working overnight, and having spare batteries on a platform you already use is just useful. Set your expectations though: accessories and replacement batteries will become harder to source over the next 12–18 months as retail stock runs out.

If you’re starting from scratch: Skip the clearance. Buying into a platform being discontinued means you’ll face a dead battery ecosystem within two years. The better play at Lowe’s right now is Craftsman V20, which covers the same price range with active manufacturer support. Timing is actually good: Craftsman Days BOGO launches May 14 with buy-one-get-one-free deals on V20 tools. That’s the better entry point for a new setup. The Bigger Picture

Kobalt 24V joining FLEX — which Lowe’s dropped from shelves earlier in 2026 — on the discontinued list is part of a broader consolidation in the budget cordless space. Lowe’s appears to be narrowing its private-label tool strategy around Craftsman V20 (a Stanley Black & Decker brand) rather than maintaining its own Kobalt power tool platform. The Kobalt brand may survive in hand tools and storage, but the cordless power tool ecosystem is winding down.

Kobalt 24V clearance is live now at Lowe’s. No official end date has been announced — inventory is finite and won’t be replenished.
