DeWalt’s First 5-in-1 Modular Drill Is Now Available: ATOMIC 20V MAX DCD803B

DeWalt just solved a problem that cabinet installers, electricians, and remodelers have complained about for years: carrying three different drill configurations for a single job. The new ATOMIC 20V MAX Multi-Head Drill/Driver (DCD803B) is DeWalt’s first ever modular drill — a compact 5-in-1 body that converts from a standard 1/2″ chuck to a right-angle driver in seconds, without swapping tools or digging through your bag.

What It Does

The DCD803B is built around a drop-in attachment system. The body measures under 5 inches long and weighs 2.1 lbs bare — smaller than most compact drills. Four attachments are included, each clicking in and out of the same host body:

  • 1/2″ metal chuck — standard drilling and driving
  • 1/4″ hex quick-release — fast bit changes for driving
  • 1/4″ right-angle attachment — drilling inside cabinets, between studs, in wall cavities
  • 1/4″ offset driver — flush-corner fastening and tight access points

The brushless motor delivers two speeds — 450 RPM and 1,650 RPM — with 16 clutch settings for torque control. An integrated LED work light is built into the head. The tool runs on any battery in the 20V MAX lineup, including Compact, XR, and ATOMIC packs.

Who It’s For

This is a specialist tool for finish-work trades. Cabinet installers spend half their day contorted behind face frames, HVAC techs drill in ductwork corners, electricians set boxes in tight bays — these are the people who carry a separate right-angle drill specifically for awkward access. The DCD803B consolidates that into one body.

For general DIY or framing work, a standard compact drill is still the right buy. The DCD803B’s 1,650 RPM high-speed cap and relatively modest torque aren’t built for sustained heavy drilling. But if your work involves a lot of finish installations, this eliminates a tool from your bag and cuts setup time between tasks.

First From DeWalt at This Format

Modular multi-head drills aren’t entirely new — Milwaukee has offered attachment-based heads on its M12 platform — but this is DeWalt’s first entry into the format on the 20V MAX side. The ATOMIC line has established itself as the compact performance tier of the 20V ecosystem, and extending it with modular attachments is a direct response to what installation professionals have been asking for.

At $229 bare tool, you’re paying more than a standard compact drill. But the calculation changes if you’re currently buying separate right-angle attachments and offset drivers. The DCD803B bundles all of that into one SKU at a price below what those accessories cost individually.
