Grizzly Industrial has issued a safety recall affecting approximately 2,300 heavy-duty planers sold nationwide since 2016. The recall covers the G0815 15″ 3 HP Heavy-Duty Planers purchased on or before November 21, 2025, due to a serious design flaw that can eject debris at high speeds.
What’s the Problem?
The chip breaker on affected planers can make contact with the rotating cutterhead blades during operation. When this happens, debris gets ejected from the machine, creating impact and laceration hazards for both the operator and anyone standing nearby.
Grizzly has received seven reports of the rotating cutters breaking, though fortunately no injuries have been reported yet. Given the severity of the hazard—flying debris from spinning cutterhead blades—this is a recall worth taking seriously.
Which Models Are Affected?
The recall affects Grizzly G0815 15″ 3 HP Heavy-Duty Planers purchased before November 21, 2025. These machines were sold through multiple channels:
- Retail stores: Bibb Tool & Cutter, Hamilton Tool and Supply, PMC Tool Company, and Stoll Brothers Lumber
- Online retailers: Grizzly.com, HomeDepot.com, Tractor Supply.com, MaxTool.com, and other websites
- Time period: June 2016 through September 2025
- Price range: $900 to $2,400
What Should You Do?
Stop using the planer immediately if you own an affected unit. Contact Grizzly Industrial to receive a free repair kit with installation instructions. The kit includes:
- Upgraded chip breaker adjustment rod
- Spacer, set screws, lock washers, and lock nuts
- Step-by-step installation instructions
Grizzly is making this repair free of charge, and the upgraded components should prevent the chip breaker from contacting the blades.

Why This Recall Matters
Planers are already one of the more dangerous tools in a woodshop due to their spinning cutterheads and high feed rates. A chip breaker making contact with those blades turns an already-risky tool into a debris cannon. Even experienced woodworkers working with proper safety gear could be caught off guard by unexpected debris ejection.
If you bought a Grizzly planer between 2016 and 2025, check your model number. The G0815 is a popular mid-range planer that found its way into thousands of shops across the country. Don’t assume your planer is fine just because it hasn’t shown symptoms yet—the chip breaker issue can develop over time as components wear.
