Makita just added two new cordless framing nailers to its 40V XGT platform, and they’re worth a close look if you drive a lot of nails on a compressor-free jobsite.
The GNB01Z (30° clipped head) and GNB02Z (21° full round head) were announced March 3, 2026, and pre-orders are shipping from tool retailers starting March 16. Both are tool-only models on the 40V XGT system.
What You Get
The two models cover the two most common nail collation formats for framing work:
- GNB01Z — 30° Clipped Head: Drives 2″ to 3-1/2″ nails (.113″–.131″ diameter). 58-nail rear-load magazine. Standard on most residential framing crews and code-accepted in most jurisdictions.
- GNB02Z — 21° Full Round Head: Drives 2″ to 3-1/2″ nails (.113″–.148″ diameter). 41-nail magazine. Full round head nails meet stricter structural requirements and are often mandated on engineered lumber connections.
Both models share the same core specs: 11.9 lbs with a 40V battery, up to 1,020 nails per charge using the 2.5Ah XGT battery, and a two-mode selector for sequential or bump fire. Makita claims up to 2x faster nailing speeds compared to previous-generation tools — though check manufacturer specs for your specific application.
Why This Matters for XGT Users
Cordless framing nailers have been the last holdout for compressor-dependent crews. Milwaukee’s M18 FUEL and DeWalt’s 20V MAX FlexVolt Advantage nailers have been the dominant options for the past few years. Makita entering with XGT 40V (rather than the older 18V LXT system) puts serious battery muscle behind the trigger — more power headroom for dense lumber and LVL beams.
If you’re already running XGT for your drill, grinder, or chainsaw, adding framing nailers on the same battery platform is a real workflow win. No second charger, no second battery shelf.
Availability and Pricing
The GNB01Z and GNB02Z are available for pre-order now at specialty tool retailers, with shipments beginning March 16, 2026. Pricing was not publicly confirmed at the time of writing — check Makita’s website or your dealer for current pricing. Makita tools are sold on Amazon with our affiliate link available once listed.
Both models are tool-only; you’ll need at least one 40V XGT battery (sold separately). Makita recommends the 2.5Ah BL4025 for optimal cycle counts.
The Bottom Line
If you’re invested in the XGT ecosystem, these two framing nailers fill a significant gap. If you’re cross-shopping platforms, the GNB02Z’s full round head compliance and strong per-charge nail count make it a compelling entrant against Milwaukee and DeWalt’s cordless offerings.
