DeWalt is expanding its cordless ratchet lineup this month with two new 20V Max tools — and the flagship model does something its competition doesn’t: swap between three different anvil configurations without swapping tools.
The DeWalt 20V Max XR Brushless Sealed Head Ratchet
The 20V Max XR Brushless Sealed Head Ratchet ships with three interchangeable anvils: a 3/8-inch square drive, a 1/4-inch square drive, and a 1/4-inch low-profile hex driver. One ratchet covers the most common fastener sizes without reaching for a different tool. DeWalt rates it at up to 450 RPM and 50 ft-lbs of maximum torque — enough for automotive maintenance and general mechanical work.
Practical features include a sealed head (the “sealed” designation matters in dirty environments where grit kills cheap ratchets), a built-in LED for tight spaces, a trigger lock to prevent accidental actuation, and standard forward/reverse switching. Battery and charger are sold separately; it works with any 20V Max pack you already own.
Also Launching: The DeWalt ATOMIC 20V Max Brushless 1/4-Inch Ratchet
Alongside the XR, DeWalt released a more compact ATOMIC variant rated for 250 RPM and 45 ft-lbs. It’s a dedicated 1/4-inch drive — no swappable anvils — designed for lighter-duty applications and tighter spaces where the larger XR won’t fit. Variable speed trigger and trigger lock are standard here too. An extended-reach version is also releasing in March for working in deep recesses.
Why DeWalt Is Coming After Milwaukee’s Ratchet Business
Cordless ratchets have been Milwaukee’s territory. The M18 lineup has owned this category for years among automotive technicians and maintenance crews. DeWalt launching two ratchet SKUs simultaneously — a workhorse XR and a compact ATOMIC — signals they want a piece of that market. The multi-drive swappable anvil system on the XR is a genuine differentiator; Milwaukee’s cordless ratchets don’t offer that flexibility.
For tradespeople already running 20V Max, this removes one reason to cross platforms. For anyone eyeing a first cordless ratchet, DeWalt just made the 20V ecosystem more attractive.
Both models are available through Amazon as of March 2026. Pricing has not been officially announced — check Amazon for current listings.
