DeWalt Is Adding Two New XR Oscillating Multi-Tools — Brushless Upgrade With Universal OIS Mount

DeWalt is refreshing its 20V MAX XR oscillating multi-tool lineup for the first time in years. Two new models — the DCS358 and DCS359 — are headed to market in 2026 with an updated accessory mount and a cleaner split between users who want basic performance and those who want full speed control.

Two Models, Two Price Points

Based on information from ToolGuyd, here’s how the new lineup breaks down:

  • DCS359 (Premium XR) — 4-speed settings, brushless motor, universal OIS quick-release mount
  • DCS358 (Value) — Single-speed range, same brushless motor, similar ergonomics and blade-change system as the DCS359

The DCS359 is the successor to the DCS356 (currently the top XR oscillating tool). The DCS358 covers the budget tier with brushless performance — a step up from the existing single-speed ATOMIC model (DCS354).

The OIS Mount Is the Meaningful Upgrade

Both new tools will use a universal quick-release OIS attachment mount. That means they’ll accept split-ring and full-ring accessories without needing an adapter — something the current DCS356 requires for certain third-party blades.

If you run a lot of carbide or bi-metal blades from different brands, this matters. Our best oscillating multi-tool blades guide breaks down which accessory systems are worth stocking — universal OIS compatibility is near the top of that list.

Where These Fit in the Market

DeWalt’s current cordless oscillating lineup:

  • DCS356 — 3-speed XR brushless (the tool being replaced by the DCS359)
  • DCS354 — Single-speed ATOMIC brushless (being replaced by the DCS358)

Milwaukee’s M18 FUEL oscillating multi-tool (2836) has been the benchmark on the cordless side — consistent OPM under load, strong motor output, and a broad accessory ecosystem. DeWalt is clearly responding with a more competitive mounting system and a modernized ergonomics package. For brand context, see our DeWalt vs Makita 2026 comparison.

Pricing and Timing

DeWalt has not confirmed pricing or a specific launch window. No official MSRP has been announced. Check DeWalt’s website and authorized dealers as these models become available.
