DeWalt Is Replacing Its Oscillating Multi-Tool Lineup: Two New Brushless Models (DCS358 and DCS359) Are Coming

DeWalt is replacing its oscillating multi-tool lineup with two new brushless models — a premium upgrade and a budget entry — and the changes address the most common complaints about the current tools.

The current king of the DeWalt oscillating lineup is the DCS356, a 3-speed brushless model. The two new tools — the DCS359 and DCS358 — are set to update the platform with better accessory compatibility and a tiered pricing structure that gives budget buyers a proper brushless option.

Two Models, Two Price Points

DCS359 (premium XR model):

  • 4-speed brushless — one more setting than the outgoing DCS356
  • Universal quick-release OIS attachment mount
  • Tool-free accessory changes for split and fill ring accessories
  • Designed to compete directly with Bosch’s StarlockMax system

DCS358 (value model):

  • Brushless motor — this is the key upgrade vs. previous entry-level options
  • Single speed range
  • Tool-free blade changes
  • Targets buyers who want brushless efficiency without the premium price

Official pricing and release dates haven’t been announced — DeWalt revealed the tools via social media, not a formal press release. Images and initial specs come from ToolGuyd’s reporting on the announcement.

What the OIS Mount Upgrade Means

The universal quick-release OIS mount on the DCS359 is the headline spec worth paying attention to. OIS (Oscillating Interface System) is the standard attachment system used by Bosch and several other brands, and it’s compatible with a wide range of blades and accessories beyond DeWalt’s own line.

The current DCS356 can accept OIS accessories, but the new universal mount should make swapping blades faster and more secure. For tradespeople who run multiple accessory types — plunge cuts, sanding pads, scraper blades — this matters more than an extra speed setting.

Why This Is a Smart Move by DeWalt

Oscillating multi-tools are one of the most frequently recommended tools for DIYers and finish carpenters. They do things nothing else does easily: flush-cut door casings, trim grout, cut through drywall in a controlled line, sand in corners. But they also suffer from accessory lock-in: buy into a proprietary mount, and you’re stuck in that ecosystem.

Moving to universal OIS on the premium DCS359 positions it well against the Bosch GOE18V-34N and Milwaukee M18 FUEL, which have offered universal mounts for years. The DCS358 brushless budget model fills the gap where buyers were previously forced to choose between the old corded lineup or spending more for brushless.
