Bosch has officially launched the EXPERT 18V battery line — the brand’s biggest battery upgrade in years — and the new packs are available on Amazon right now. If you own Bosch 18V tools, this is the upgrade that lets your existing kit perform like new hardware.
What Makes the EXPERT Batteries Different
The headline feature is tabless cell construction. Standard lithium-ion cells use a small metal tab to carry current between the electrode and terminal — and that tab creates a bottleneck, generating heat and limiting peak current flow. Bosch’s EXPERT cells eliminate the tab entirely, letting current flow from the full surface of the electrode for lower internal resistance, higher peak power, and cooler operation over long charge cycles.
Bosch pairs the new cells with updated CoolPack 2.0 technology — an expanded aluminum heat-sink surface on the cell housing — to pull thermal energy away from the pack during aggressive use.
Three sizes are available in the US at launch:
- EXBA18V-40 (4Ah) — $149: Up to 2x more instantaneous maximum power and 35% longer runtime vs. the CORE18V 4Ah. Buy Now on Amazon
- EXBA18V-60 (6Ah) — $159: Roughly 75% longer runtime vs. an older 4Ah pack, mid-tier price point.
- EXBA18V-80 (8Ah) — $199: Up to 2,400W peak power output. Buy Now on Amazon
A new GAL18V-160C fast charger supports up to 16A charging, bringing an 8Ah EXPERT pack from flat to full in about 39 minutes.
Backward Compatible — No New Tools Required
Every EXPERT 18V battery works with the entire Bosch AMPShare 18V ecosystem — every drill, saw, grinder, or outdoor tool you already own. The performance boost is immediate without buying a single new tool.
This makes the EXPERT line particularly compelling for high-draw applications like angle grinders, demo hammers, and circular saws where heat buildup is the limiting factor on performance and battery longevity.
Fits a Pattern Across the Industry
Tabless cell technology is rapidly becoming the new standard. We covered EGO’s new BA4480X Tabless Cell battery last week — and now Bosch is bringing the same architecture to one of the largest installed bases of 18V tools in North America.
To understand what these numbers actually mean for your tools, our Power Tool Batteries Decoded guide breaks down amp hours, watt hours, and peak power in plain language. For a full side-by-side of how Bosch’s 18V platform stacks up against Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita, see Battery Platforms Compared 2026.
The EXPERT batteries carry a 3-year limited warranty. Available now on Amazon.
